Resources
Spending wisely and saving time are two mottos to live by, always. It’s important to keep a happy balance between the two, lest you find yourself in a world of regret. As a person who loves to learn, travel, and try new things, I love to explore new ways to save where I can.
Education
There are many educational resources available online – for free – that can help anyone learn just about anything! Well, maybe not anything… but at least something! You can expand upon existing skill sets, explore new fields of study, or even complete your degree!
- edX (edx.org) – edX is an online university-level course provider created by Harvard and MIT. There’s over 3,000+ courses in a wide array of different fields of study, and many are available at no charge.
- Sophia Learning (sophia.org) – Sophia offers low-cost, online college courses for credit toward your degree. See if your school is covered.
Money
Sometimes we all have to a dollar to save a dime, but a penny saved is a penny earned… or something like that. Money is the fabric of our society, and it’s important to spend it wisely when you exchange your knowledge, time, and capability for it. There are many online resources that can help you save dollars of your hard-earned money on everyday purchases.
- CardBear (cardbear.com) – The best marketplace for discounted gift cards. Some merchants are up to 50% off and beyond in some cases. I love to pick up gift cards when we are on the go shopping or at a restaurant. Raise and CardCash often deliver within 3-5 minutes.
- Groupon (groupon.com) – This is a great way to find discounts on local events, entertainment, restaurants, memberships, and professional services you may not have otherwise used.
- Woot (woot.com) – You can find a lot of discounted merchandise on Woot, an Amazon company. There’s often great deals on tech or discounted Amazon products.
Travel
Some people believe that traveling is expensive – and don’t get me wrong, it can be – but if you take the time to find the right deal, you can go just about anywhere in the world on a shoe string budget.
- Resort Vacation Certificates (resortcerts.com) – This is a secret that businesses often use to say Thank You to clients, employees, and partners. For $599 USD, you can buy a certificate that’s valid for a 7-night vacation stay within the RCI and Wyndham network. It expires within 365 days, but I recommend booking your stay ~90 days beforehand to ensure you get the room, resort, amenities, or destination you want. Most places don’t allow pets.
- Skiplagged (skiplagged.com) – Save money on flights around the world by skipping the “primary” flight destination and disembarking in a layover town. This is a perfect option for most destinations in the midwest region of the United States. Pack a carry on, only!
- Vacations To Go (vacationstogo.com) – If you like to cruise, this is your happy place. You can save up to 93% on some last-minute cruises. I’d recommend using the database to find the cruise and then going directly to the merchant site to book your venture.
