The Amazons | Lyrics
By Ammie-Marie Littke

She paints her way with the colors of the wind
Her spirit’s swifter than the breeze
A Celtic grim and a nod to her kin
Every secret carved into the trees
Her enchanted forest howls throughout the night
Wild woman, illuminated by the moon
A stature taller than the noblest knight
Trailblazer, waging her descent on the lagoon
PRE-CHORUS:
Never thought they’d see the day
She’d return to claim her rightful place
A bishop move, a game to be played
Her battle cries welcomed like a warm embrace
CHORUS:
Legends vie for your birthright
Ride on, vengeful warrior queen
Take your place like a thief in the night
A rebel yell heard, but never seen
When the war rages
Only she can save us
Saddle up, we ride at dawn
Like the Amazons
Voyagers plague every land they save
They think they own the planet
Golden jewels to gain, her people to enslave
But Myrina wouldn’t have it
Voices carry off beyond the mountains
Marching on, thirty thousand strong
Into an abyss, step by step and countin’
It won’t be too soon before long
(PRE-CHORUS, CHORUS)
BRIDGE:
Never thought they’d see the day
A woman, who’d dare to stand and fight
Her passions rage, ancestors showing her the way
The enemy won’t make it through the night
(CHORUS)
They accepted their fate
When she seized the day
The Amazons
ABOUT THIS WORK
STORY BEHIND THE SONG:
On Thanksgiving Day 2021, I wrote this song in less than 20 minutes. I woke up with the words and the melody already on my mind, and had to jot it down quickly.
Ultimately, the song became about a fictitious battle under the leadership of Myrina, queen of the Amazons.
The Amazonian women a legendary group of female warriors and hunters from Greek mythology, who were as skilled and courageous as men in physical agility, strength, archery, riding skills, and the arts of combat.
